LAST GIG ~ IC #118 ~ 2nd DECEMBER 2006 ~ THE NATIONAL POST MORTEM

Sometimes the December gigs are quiet because of the works Xmas party season but happily that wasn't the case this year.  Numbers through the door peaked at just under 80 [about average for 2006] and they were treated to ear-candy of the highest order by all DJs - playlists published on the dedicated page.  Sue was up first and surprised me with Jimmy Norman's "I Don't Love You No More" [the one with an introduction like "Please Operator"] - one I've never thought of playing myself but didn't it sound good?  Next was Daft Lad Al who I think must have flogged one of his kidneys from the look of his growing collection, the one I enjoyed most in this set was Tony Lamarr "Just In The Nick Of Time" its yonks since I last heard that.  Finally Denny got some of the big guns out but the one that seems to be the current Irish Club favourite is Ted Taylor's RnB pounder "Somebody's Always Trying" - the floor was rammed.  Attention Stevie Warren & Alan Hughes: you forgot to submit the absentee letters from your mums.

NEXT GIG ~ IC #119 ~ 6th JANUARY 2007 ~ THE NEW YEAR'S LASH-UP

Apart from anniversaries January is consistently the biggest night each year so let.  Wayne Hemingway is on holiday from UK and will joining Van Astbury & Paul Hannigan on the guest roster.  Wayne is Paul Mercieca's mate and has become somewhat of a media personality [quite possibly the first one born in Blackburn] but he hasn't forgot his Northern Soul roots and will be spinning a few of his faves. Full line-up as follows....

Kev: play-time / Pete: warm-up 8:30 til 9:30 / Wayne: 9:30 til 10:15 / Paul: 10:15 til 11 / Van: 11 til 11:45 / Pete 11:45 til 12:30 / Kev 12:30 til chucking out time.

IC #121 ~ 10th ANNIVERSARY MINI-WEEKENDER ~ MARCH 2nd, 3rd AND POSSIBLY 4th

Clear your diaries for this weekend because there will be at least 2 events - a Northern Soul night somewhere [TBA] probably til 1am but I may search around for a later licence, then the usual alldayer 2pm til 1am at the Irish.  All being well, this should have a bit of a Nash feel about it because there was heaps of interstate interest in Melbourne and this has been re-confirmed by email & phone this week.  Depending on the number of visitors, we'll also organise something on Sunday but not at a dance venue.

THE 9th NORTHERN SOUL NATIONAL WEEKENDER ~ MELBOURNE 2006 ~ 16th, 17th & 18th NOVEMBER

Obviously with an away team of 56 everyone had a ripping time and came back with great memories & a thousand choons buzzing round in their heads.  The concensus of opinion seems to be that the Sunday gig was easily the best and that the allnighter venue was probably ill-suited to Northern Soul dancing because of the poor floors & herd of young 'uns whirling beer & fags around.  Its Adelaide's turn next [3rd time for them] and I'm hearing a whisper that it'll be the first weekend in November - but don't commit to anything until this has been confirmed by Todd.

That's it for now folk, keep it soulful - Pete
